Olusanya Akinola · Lagos · Nigeria
This piece was conceived, planned, and executed using acrylic paint and markers on canvas. It features African motifs designed by the artist, represented as interconnected strings. At the center lies a sphere, symbolizing the soul that unites these connections. The color palette includes contrasting oranges and yellows, enhancing the visual impact of the work.
This work explores the philosophical existence of individuals and their interrelationships. It reflects on the idea that our lives are interconnected by invisible strings, linking us to family through ties and to others through relationships built over time.
The concept of an invisible string theory suggests a connection to one's soulmate via a metaphorical string. While this notion can offer hope, it may also lead individuals to remain in unhealthy or abusive relationships due to a perceived destined bond.
In observing life, I recognize that human beings thrive through these connections. The people we encounter contribute to our existence and help us navigate challenges. Friendships provide support, and by uplifting others, we create new connections. As we meet new people, whether in person or online, we forge additional strings that enrich our experiences.
Life presents a spectrum of experiences—both positive and negative—from which we learn and grow. Ultimately, I believe that no one exists in isolation; our connections shape our lives and define our shared humanity.
