In Yorùbá mythology, the goddess Aje is portrayed as the patroness of money and success. According to Yoruba spirituality, Aje is the spiritual force responsible for the creation and upkeep of riches. Aje is known as Aje Olokun, the ultimate god of prosperity and the altruistic provider of all human needs. She is claimed to be Olokun's only daughter. Aje olokun is commonly represented by cowries, which were utilized as a form of trade and payment in western Africa up until the seventeenth century and are still regarded as a symbol of prosperity.
