Echoes of the Soul was created with ballpoint pen and explores hidden layers of human emotion beneath the surfaces we show. The center figure reflects strength and composure, yet within echo sadness and rage, faces of struggle many carry in silence. Outwardly we appear calm and resilient, yet deep inside rests unspoken pain. The chrome-like finish symbolizes strength and reflection, polished but vulnerable within. This work reminds us that beneath every composed exterior, battles often echo quietly in the soul.
The inspiration for Echoes of the Soul came from a vivid dream. Three figures appeared so clearly that I quickly sketched them down upon waking. The image connected with what I have often observed in life, people who seem strong and composed on the outside while hiding sadness, anger, or pain within. Many conceal their emotions to protect loved ones from worry, while others hide them out of fear of showing weakness. This hidden struggle became the heart of the work.
The central theme is human emotion, the tension between outward strength and inward fragility. The main figure embodies calm composure, while the two fainter figures behind him echo suppressed feelings of rage and sorrow. Together they represent the silent battles many carry in their souls.
The process began with a rough sketch from my dream. At first, I imagined all three figures equally visible, but later chose to fade the emotional figures into the background to emphasize contrast between the surface we show and the feelings we suppress. Using only a ballpoint pen, I layered hatching and cross hatching, creating a chrome like finish to symbolize strength and reflection.
While drawing, I felt empathy for the unseen burdens people carry. Each stroke reminded me of the weight of unspoken struggles. The piece became both a meditation on vulnerability and a mirror for anyone who has ever carried emotions alone.
