The Waiting Bride honors the Efik maiden's tradition as she prepares for marriage. This bronze figure, inspired by the cultural practice of the fattening room, stands with poise and elegance, embodying beauty and heritage. Her stance reflects both expectation and grace, symbolizing the transition from maidenhood to womanhood. The textured form connects her to tradition, while her uplifted presence conveys hope, continuity, and cultural pride.
My inspiration for this bronze piece was drawn from the beautiful Efik tribe, their vibrant colors, rich food, graceful dances, and the timeless beauty of the maiden. The Waiting Bride reflects the sacred fattening room tradition, where a young woman becomes more than a bride, she becomes the essence of grace, expectation, and heritage. Through this sculpture, I honor their culture and the quiet yet powerful strength of womanhood.
