About the Artist
Full name: Bashiru Aliu Olatunji Artist name: Olatunji B A
Born in Ibadan, Nigeria, Olatunji recently
completed his National Youth Service
Corp assignment, following his graduation
with a Higher National Diploma in
Painting from The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
Olatunji is greatly influenced by the work of Raji Mohammed Babatunde, in whose
Lagos studio he served as resident intern during Polytechnic class breaks.
Olatunji can be described as a figurative painter, representational, impressionistic,
who draws inspiration from the people he observes in day-to-day encounters. The
viewer is invited into the inner world of the subjects presented, to develop empathy
for and understanding of their existence in that single moment.
Olatunji works mainly in oils completely, and occasionally in oils mixed with acrylic
underpainting, or in acrylic only, on mid-size to large canvases.
His palette tends toward vibrant colours, reflecting the apparel and natural glow of
his subjects, with subtle blending and detailed variations in light and shadow.
